Submission Guidelines

Baggy Sunflowers opens for subs for the first time this Thursday at 10am BST! 1st issue: Celebrating neurodivergent voices

Submissions close: Wednesday 11:59pm BST 11th October 2023

Baggy Sunflowers will be a quarterly online literary magazine, with the view to create a print edition in the future.

The first issue will be released in January, and every first quarter issue will link with a charity or organisation to help them raise vital funds. For this issue we will be linking with the National Neurodiversity Youth Council. Check out their website to find out more: https://www.adhdfoundation.org.uk/what-we-do/the-national-neurodiversity-youth-council/

To coincide with this, our first issue will be themed around celebrating neurodivergent voices.

We are looking for poetry, short fiction and creative non-fiction from neurodivergent people. The work doesn’t need to be about neurodivergence (although it can be!), we just want to celebrate your talent and raise some money for a good cause!

It is free to submit, however for a small donation to the National Neurodiversity Youth Council you can get a quicker response time or feedback on your submission- more info on this below!

  • Submissions from anywhere in the world are accepted, as long as the majority of the work is in English.

  • Please submit unpublished work of up to three poems of any length or short fiction/ creative non-fiction up to 2000 words- micro and flash fiction very welcome!

  • Simultaneous submissions are fine, please email us to withdraw your work if it is accepted somewhere else.

  • Please send your submission as an email attachment, preferably as a Word or Pages document. In the body of your email please include a short bio of no more than 90 words. For issue 1 we would prefer to see reference to your neurodivergence in the bio, but this is not a requirement.

  • Please try to follow the submission guidelines to the best of your ability; however, we want to be as accessible as possible and we will not reject submissions for not following the guidelines to the letter. If you’re unsure of anything, please email us at baggysunflowers@outlook.com

  • A submission template is available at the bottom of this page for those who would like to use it. This isn’t mandatory, but we want to make the process as easy as possible, so if it helps you submit, please use it! Whether or not you use the template will not affect your chances of being accepted.

  • Please only submit once per submission period.

  • For a small donation of £3 to the NNDYC, you can receive either a fast-tracked response  to your submission (within 7 working days but likely much quicker) or 250-300 words of feedback on your submission. For £5 you can receive both. Feedback can take up to four weeks to receive. To receive this, please make the correct donation to this link before you send us your submission. If you choose to donate anonymously, please add the name of your submission in the message so we can link it to you. When you submit, please let us know in the email what service you have paid for. Donations are not refundable.

We aim to respond to all submissions within four weeks, however this is our first issue so we are still working on our process. We will respond to all submissions regardless of outcome.

Unfortunately we cannot pay for your submissions at this time, but we hope to change this soon.

If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch with us via email, Twitter or Instagram and we will aim to get back to you as soon as possible!
